Experiment One: Reflection

On the whole, I really enjoyed drafting the first couple of paragraphs of my open letter to President Biden. I think my first experiment is off to an exciting start, and it would be really great to develop the open letter further if I decide on it for my final project.

There are a few particular points that I think demonstrate some of my strengths and breakthroughs in Experiment #1 so far. One strength in my open letter I’ve realized so far is that it has been relatively easy to implement what I have learned as a columnist in the letter genre. This transition has allowed me to begin expanding my knowledge as a writer and venture out of my comfort zone into a new area of writing. So far, I am really proud of how I’ve approached this argument by being formal and professional while sharing constructive criticism at the same time.

Now that I have had the opportunity to write a portion of Experiment #1, I feel so fortunate to have had the chance to explore the open letter genre. In the past, I have had little to no experience with writing open letters, and I think they can really be such a powerful mode of expression. For me, I find that the open letter is an optimal combination of my experience with journalism and strong interest in the subject of the national debt. I am really excited to have the chance to fully realize my open letter in the future. I hope everybody in my audience can take away some important information about the debt crisis from the letter.
